Belmont Technical College is the only training program for the nursing field located directly in St. Clairsville. The technical college does not offer a Certified Nursing Assistant training program, but does offer pre-degree programs in medical assisting, as well as a associate's degrees in Nursing and a Licensed Practical Nurse certificate program. The programs are designed to be completed in two years. Students should apply as early as possible since classes rapidly fill up.

The University of Pittsburgh, about an hour drive from St. Clairsville, offers a free CNA training program through its Institute on Aging. Students complete the training course for free and in exchange, work at one of the University's nursing homes following their education. Students can also choose to pay for the training if they decide to work elsewhere. The CNA training program lasts just a few weeks.

Another option that involves commuting out of St. Clairsville is a program offered by Canton, Ohio's city schools, about an hour and half drive from St. Clairsville. The program, designed to help adults and high school graduates transition into the work world, offers two courses that can lead to a CNA certification. The Nurse Tech 1 course offers the basics about the structures of health care, while the Nurse Tech 2 course prepares students for passing the CNA exam. Students must complete a number of prerequisites before taking the course, including math, English, science and history. Adult students can also complete a Practical Nurse program through the Adult Education department.
