Dialysis Technician Programs in Ohio

A dialysis technician is an allied health profession that requires specialized training and certification. Certified Hemodialysis Technicians experience a lot of direct patient care and may work at a dialysis center, hospital, or even provide treatments at patients’ homes. To work as a technician in Ohio, you must complete an approved training program and pass the national certification examination. You may choose from two approved vocational training schools or, for the right individual, career training through an employer may also be an option.
  1. Collins Career Center

    • The Collins Career Center, located in Chesapeake, offers a dialysis technician training program. Through classroom and hands-on clinical training, students will learn the proper techniques and skills they need to care for patients who are undergoing hemodialysis treatments. The program includes courses in CPR, computer literacy, medical terminology, anatomy, and dialysis theory. Students are able to complete the program in as little a nine months. Upon completion, students will be eligible to apply for certification through the Ohio Board of Nursing.

    Miami Valley Career Technology Center

    • Located in Clayton, the Miami Valley Career Technology Center provides students the opportunity to earn a Dialysis Technician Certificate. During the 30-week program, students will learn proper patient care techniques, water treatment monitoring, as well as equipment maintenance and repair. The course material will also over areas such as ethics, legal issues, anatomy, physiology, and work readiness. After successful completion of the program, students will be ready to apply to sit for the national certification exam.

    Davita

    • Another training course you may able to choose is on-the-job training. This is a good option for individuals who have prior health care training or experience. However, prospective employees may apply to Davita, a nationwide dialysis provider, with little or no heath care training. If hired, Davita’s in-house Hemodialysis Technician Training Program will prepare you for a career as a technician. To be eligible to apply for an open position you must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and maintain current CPR certification. Previous health care experience is preferred, but not required. All employees who complete this program must pass the national certification examination within 18 months of their hiring date. This program is appoved by the Ohio Board of Nursing.
