CNA Programs in Chicago

CNAs, also known as certified nursing assistants, are direct care workers. They primarily work in nursing homes, long-term living facilities, physician offices and hospitals. Duties include helping patients dress, bath and eat, vital signs, cleaning, answer help calls and escorts patients to needed facilities. Programs to become a CNA in Chicago are found at vocational, private and community colleges.
  1. Samland Institute

    • Samland Institute, with three Chicago locations, offers a 120 hour CNA course. The training is offered in five and eight week formats, and the program is approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health. The program is comprised of 80 hours of lecture/classroom instruction and 40 hours of clinical instruction in a health care facility. Curriculum includes basic nursing care concepts for patients in a wide range a health care facilities. Students that complete the program will be eligible to take the Illinois Nurse Aide Competency Examination to become a certified nursing assistant.

    Academy of Healthcare Training

    • Academy of Healthcare Training is located in Franklin Park, Illinois, which is in west Chicago near O'Hara International Airport. The academy offers CNA training in daytime and evening hours. The program teaches concepts such as introduction to health care, body structure and function, infection control and basic nursing skills. Other skills that students will learn include bathing and feeding patients, transporting people, vital signs and health care assessment. Admission requirements are a high school diploma, social security card and a valid driver's license.

    Wilbur Wright College

    • Wilbur Wright College is a public community college located in north Chicago. The CNA program at WWC is a seven credit hour certificate program. Students in this program will participate in classroom lecture and clinical instruction at a healthcare facility. Graduates of the program will qualify to take the Illinois Nurse Aide Competency Examination to become a certified nursing assistant. This class serves as a prerequisite for WWC's RN program. Students must submit a backround test prior to be accepted into the program.
