LPN Schools in Georgia

Employment of licensed practical nurses, or LPNs, is expected to grow much faster than average through the year 2018, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Training programs for LPNs typically take about a year to complete. Prospective LPNs in Georgia can select from several programs at technical and community colleges designed to prepare them to pass the state board examination and obtain licenses in the state.

    Bainbridge College

    • Applicants to the Bainbridge College LPN program must pass an academic skills test in addition to submitting high school transcripts and proof of immunizations. The LPN certificate requires of 76 to 78 credits including medical terminology, surgical nursing and nursing leadership. Students are also required to complete a state board review course.

    Savannah Technical College

    • The 95-credit practical nursing diploma program at Savannah Technical College covers topics including anatomy and physiology, medical terminology and nursing specialty areas such as pediatrics and obstetrics. Prospective students must submit transcripts and either standardized test scores or scores from a placement examination taken at Savannah Technical College and attend an online orientation session before starting the program.

    Valdosta Technical College

    • Graduates of the practical nursing diploma program at Valdosta Technical College are prepared to take the state licensing exam and work in general nursing or specialty areas. Applicants are considered based on a review of placement test scores, standardized test scores and transcripts. After completing core courses in nutrition, anatomy and liberal arts, students take required courses covering topics such as drug administration, nursing fundamentals and nursing specialties such as surgical, pediatric and obstetric nursing.
