Indiana LPN Schools

Licensed practical nurses are often referred to as LPNs. LPNs provide a number of basic nursing skills in a variety of health care settings. Many LPNs are employed at hospitals, nursing homes and physicians' offices. According to Salary.com, the median annual income for LPNs in Indiana was $40,772 as of November 2009. You can find LPN programs at technical schools and community colleges throughout Indiana. Most LPN programs last about one year.

    • Everest College is a private college located in northern Indiana in the town of Merrillville. This is a fully accredited, one-year certificate program that will qualify graduates to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN) to become a licensed practical nurse. Coursework includes fundamental principles and practices of nursing, professionalism in the workplace, anatomy and physiology, infection control, pharmacology and human life span. Students also participate in clinical rotations at health care facilities and lab sessions on campus.

    Vincennes University

    • Vincennes University is a two-year, fully accredited public college located in western Indiana near the Missouri border. Vincennes offers an LPN certificate program that is one year in length. This program involves classroom instruction, labwork and clinical training. Coursework includes anatomy and physiology, fundamentals of nursing, basic pharmacology, pediatric and geriatric nursing and care of mother and newborn. Applications for this program are accepted for the fall semester only. Graduates of this program are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination.

    Ivy Tech Community College

    • Ivy Tech Community College is part of a statewide system of community colleges in Indiana. ITCC offers its LPN program at 14 different campus locations around the state, including Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Gary, Lafayette and South Bend. The program is a fully accredited, one-year certificate program that qualifies students to take the National Council Licensure Examination. Coursework includes fundamentals of nursing, medical surgical nursing, maternal child nursing and health care concepts in nursing. Students learn in both classroom and lab settings, and are required to participate in a clinical internship at a health care facility.
