Grants for a Master's in Teaching

A variety of scholarships and educational grants are available to students who are pursuing a master's degree in teaching. Scholarships for study at the master's level are available from local organizations and institutions of higher learning, and are usually limited to students attending a certain institution, who plan to teach in a specific content area or who are of a certain ethnic background.
  1. The Lillian and Samuel Sutton Education Scholarship

    • The United Negro College Fund and the NAACP make scholarship money available to African-American college students who are pursuing a master's degree in teaching through the Lillian and Samuel Sutton Education Scholarship Program. The scholarship is awarded in the amount of $2,000 to graduate students. A student must be African-American to be eligible, and must be attending school on a full-time basis. A student must also have a minimum grade point average of 3.0. Preference is given to NAACP members.

    Teach NYC Graduate Scholarship Cohort Program

    • The organization Teach NYC makes educational grant money available to students pursuing a master's degree in education through the Graduate Scholarship Cohort Program. The grants provide full tuition scholarships to eligible students. To be eligible, a student must be pursuing a master's in teaching in English as a second language at Adelphi University or Mercy College, or in mathematics or science at Adelphi University or Fordham University. A student must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States, and must have an undergraduate grade point average of at least 3.0. Recipients of this scholarship are obligated to teach in a New York City public school for four years after graduating. Interested students should visit the Teach NYC website for more information.

    Sigma Alpha Iota

    • The music fraternity Sigma Alpha Iota provides educational grant money to students pursuing a master's degree in music education. The Music Education Scholarship for Graduate Students In Memory of Mabel Biever is available in the amount of $1,500. To be eligible, a student must be a fraternity member, have an undergraduate degree in music education and be pursuing a master's degree. The annual deadline for application is March 15.
