The Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University holds a yearly summer pre-college art program for students who will be entering either their junior or senior year in high school. This program, known as the Young Artists Residency Program, is a four-week intensive summer training program in the visual arts and design. Students may choose from over 50 college-level courses in foundations of drawing and design, portfolio preparation, anatomy and figure drawing, mural-making graphic design techniques, media literacy and many more. Classes meet Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., with an hour break for lunch. Organized weekend and evening activities such as visiting the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston are included during the residency program. Students are expected to live on campus in Lesley University residence halls. Admissions is by application only. Applicants must submit a high school transcript and a portfolio that includes eight to 10 samples of their work.

The School of Visual Arts, located in New York, N.Y., offers a three-week summer pre-college art program that is open to all high students. Students choose from a variety of field-specific topics and classes in order to develop skills, create a portfolio and gain college credit. Classes are held yearly in July and meet Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants who complete the summer pre-college program may earn three college-level credit hours. Housing is available at the secure New Residence building but is limited to 170 student spots. Registration and housing arrangements are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

San Francisco's Academy of Art University is home to a six-week summer pre-college intensive art program. High school students aged 16 and older may enroll in up to four classes that meet two times per week for two hours and 50 minutes at a time. Specific classes include drawing and composition, figure drawing, 3-D modeling, print design, web design, animation, photography and more. Summer art courses begin in June and run through August. Students may live on campus in supervised secure residence halls. Chaperoned activities are offered during non-class time periods.
