Pre-College Summer Programs

Attending a pre-college summer program is an excellent way for high school students to explore campus life and college academics. Such programs allow students to get a sense of the skills necessary for college success. Many universities across the country offer summer programs for high school students, particularly at the junior and senior level. In these programs, students get an opportunity to live on campus, earn college credit and discover the various academic programs that universities offer. Many of these programs are expensive, but they offer students an excellent taste of college life.

      Boston University offers a variety of programs that combine "academic challenge and summer fun." High school students from around the world who participate become acquainted with college life, explore academic disciplines, participate in specialized honors curriculum, or take part in a research internship in science and engineering. Students may choose to live on campus. The tuition for Boston University's summer programs runs from $1,100 to $4,240.

    Summer at Brown

    • Providence, Rhode Island

      Summer at Brown in Providence, Rhode Island, offers high school students a place to explore college life, make new friends and prepare for success in the Ivy League. Students can take courses on campus or abroad. There is also a summer leadership institute, environmental leadership lab, intensive English language program and scholar-athlete program. Students live on campus or commute. Tuition runs from $1,700 to $9,500, depending on the length and type of program.

    Pre-College Programs at Notre Dame

    • Pre-college summer programs at the University of Notre Dame in northern Indiana call on high school juniors and seniors to "stimulate your spirit" and "exercise your mind." Through a summer scholars program, global issues seminar, Latino community leadership seminar or seminar for African-American scholars, students are exposed to college life and academics. The summer scholars program runs $2,500 for tuition, room and board. Other programs are underwritten for students.
