ECU offers a science camp through the Department of Mathematics, Science, and Instructional Technology Education. The camp is open to children in 2nd through 8th grades. Children will explore a variety of science activities including looking for fossils, building a telescope and learning about endangered animals or the ocean.
Study abroad programs are also available at ECU for university students. Some of the tours available include International Field and Research Experiences in Nutrition and Dietetics in the Commonwealth of Dominica, Conservation Biology in South Africa, and Desert Shipwreck and Settlement Safari: Maritime History and Archaeology in Namibia, Africa. Students receive credit toward their degree for the study abroad program.
The School of Music at ECU offers a number of camps and seminars throughout the summer. There is a band camp for children ages 6 through 12, ECU Vocal Pedagogy Institute workshop, Choral Conducting Institute for graduate students, conductors and other teachers and musicians, and Summer Choral Camp for children grades 7 through 12.
Summer Program for Future Doctors includes intensive coursework. It includes 32 hours of preparation for the MCAT and 220 hours of science courses such as anatomy and biochemistry. Students will also spend time developing study skills, learning about issues in the medical profession and observing procedures at local clinics. The program is geared toward pre-medical students and students beginning medical school in the fall.
ECU also offers a number of youth camps. The Rec Junior Camp is open to children ages 5 through 8 and includes swimming, rock climbing, arts and crafts and field trips. The Recreation Nation Camp is for children ages 8 through 12 and includes activities such as climbing on the Alpine Tower, bowling, canoeing and field trips to museums and parks.
