Ensure that your application to the university or college has been accepted. These Institutions will not allow students to register for courses and obtain a student card until the application has been approved. Schools usually send approval letters and the status of the application can also be checked by phone or online at the school's website.
Register for courses online, by phone or in person at the college or university. Some schools will not process a student card until the student has registered for at least one course.
Gather the necessary identification and documents. Legal identification, such as a driver's licence or passport, will be required. Print or copy the proof of enrollment or acceptance as well as course registration documents. Most schools have this information available in their internal systems, but it's best to be fully prepared.
Obtain a valid photo of yourself if required. Certain schools require students to provide a photo for the student card; find out on the school's website. Photography shops that offer passport photo services usually provide this for about $15.
Apply for a student card online, by phone, mail or in person with all of the required documentation. Contact the school via the Internet or phone to find the most convenient option available.
Find out which services are available with the student card. Universities and colleges use the student card for official identification of students and other members of the campus community, but many also use the student identification as a library card, gym card and for dining services on campus. Some schools allow students to use the card as a pre-paid debit card as well.
