Obtain a provincial student loan application package. These packages can be completed and submitted online for free on most provincial student loan service websites. You can also download the package to complete and send by mail. Alternatively, each college and university in Canada has a financial aid office or department to help students with loan applications. Visit this office for an application package if you can’t access the online application or prefer to mail it.
Gather required information and documents. Student loan applications require that you submit important personal information, including personal income, assets and investments, if any, as well as parental financial information. Provide proof of citizenship or immigration status. Prepare this information before completing your application.
Complete the student loan application accurately and honestly. In most situations, the amount you receive in a student loan is based on factors that include course of study, program length, course load, grants, bursaries and more.
Submit your application; if online, via the “submit” button. If downloaded, mail the completed paper application to your provincial student loan office or submit it to your school’s financial aid office, which will mail it for you.
Mail other required documents. If you completed your application online, some provinces in Canada require additional information to be mailed to provincial loan offices. Additional information could include a signed declaration, copies of immigration records and a program confirmation, which is completed by your educational institution.
