The Associated Colleges of the Midwest began running the India Summer Program: Service Learning & Cultural Immersion in 2010. The program, which was established with support from the MacArthur Foundation, sends students to Pune, India, for six or eight week courses that teach Marathi language, Indian history, culture, traditions, and intercultural awareness. In addition to courses, students will work for one month with a non-governmental organization in either the city of Pune or nearby village Melghat, building connections with local communities. Undergraduate students throughout the United States are eligible to apply for the program as an off-campus study abroad opportunity.

Volunteering India is an organization that brings young volunteers from around the world to India to teach English, work with orphans and street children, promote female empowerment, and help out at health clinics. Two summer programs are offered by Volunteering India. The first, set in the teeming madness of Delhi's urban center, is a program designed to help underprivileged children living on the streets of the city. The second program puts volunteers in the small Himalayan village of Palampur, where they work at day care centers for disadvantaged children. In addition to these summer-specific programs, Volunteering India runs a number of programs with open-ended start dates that accepts candidates year-round, including the summer.

Brattleboro, Vermont based non-profit organization World Learning runs a summer program in India through its SIT Study Abroad institute. Students of World Learning's Himalayan Buddhist Art and Architecture program are sent to the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies in Choglamsar, in the Ladakh Valley region of Northern India. The program is designed to immerse students in the art, architecture, history, and spiritual culture of Vajrayana Buddhism, and to look at the impact ancient Himalayan civilizations may have had on that culture. The program can be taken for graduate credit.
