The Cachamsi medical Spanish program provides an opportunity to travel to Riobamba, Ecuador. Medical students treat patients in the city and rural areas and attend medical Spanish classes. The program provides lodging with a family or a stay at a bed and breakfast.

Escuelas y Centros en Latino America (ECELA) is another program that allows students to learn Spanish abroad in Argentina, Peru,or Chile. In the morning, students attend Spanish classes in a group or with one-on-one instruction. Students participate in clinical activities in the afternoon. This program provides accommodations with a local upper middle class family or a shared apartment.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) allows students to work with experienced researchers at their main campus in Bethesda, MD and many other locations. Applications are accepted between November and March and are reviewed between November and May. AIC Kijabe Hospital offers clinical experiences in its hospitals and clinics in Kenya. Students work alongside experienced staff and are able to view a variety of diseases and conditions. Many of the medical professionals speak English and hospital staff is available to translate. This hospital is owned and operated by Africa Inland Church.

The Texas Statewide Family Medicine Preceptorship Program (TSFMPP) connects students with family medicine physicians all over the state. A preceptorship is a clinical experience where medical students follow an experienced clinician. Applicants submit their preferences to TSFMPP and are connected with a physician at their desired location. This experience is only available to Texas medical students.
