The School of Health Sciences at Kenyatta University offers a masters degree in public health as well as a bachelors degree in pharmacy and nursing. The School of Health Sciences was founded 2004, and has grown to include departments of nursing sciences, public and environmental health, pre-clinical sciences (including human anatomy, physiology and biochemistry) and pathology.

The Kijabe Hospital School of Nursing is a Christian nursing school founded in 1980. Over 700 trained nurses have graduated from the program, some of whom offer the only medical care available in more remote areas of Kenya. Kijabe Hospital's facilities include two clinics specializing in diabetes and TB. The nursing school also offers a distance learning program and a nurse-anesthesiologist program. Students are accepted in March and September.

Moi University is 200 miles northwest of Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya, and was established in 1988 as the country's second medical school. The curriculum focuses on both curative hospital-based care and community-centered outreach and disease prevention. Moi University offers bachelors degrees in nursing and surgery, as well as postgraduate degrees in pediatrics, internal medicine, family health, immunology, medical education, and orthopedic surgery.

The University of Nairobi's College of Health Sciences was founded in 1967. It offers programs in clinical medicine and therapy; pediatrics and child health; orthopedic surgery; obstetrics and gynecology; psychiatry; biochemistry; medical physiology; ophthalmology; medical microbiology; and anatomy. There are also Ph.D. programs in science and medicine. Ongoing postgraduate programs include the Kenya AIDS Vaccine Initiative, Implementation of the National Biosafety Framework for Kenya and anti-malaria research.
