Jagiellonian University is Poland's oldest university. Its history reaches back to 1364, when the Cracow Academy was established, which included the faculties of law, medicine and liberal arts. However, the focus of the university changed in 1993, as three medical faculties were added. These additions were the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Health Care. Since then, the three additions have become an integrated part of the university's identity. This is for local students as well as international students.
Voted the best Medical School in Poland in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2009, the Poznan University is one of Poland's leading Polish medical centers. The university has more than 90 years of academic experience and is constantly developing and researching in basic medical sciences, clinical investigations, diagnosis and treatment. Teaching and collaborative research is done with five clinical hospitals and city hospitals. Students at Poznan put forth their best efforts, as investigative reports conducted at the university are often presented in research papers and published in professional journals, according to Poznan's website. Areas of expertise include stability of drugs in pharmaceuticals, pharmacokinetics, biochemistry, toxicology, health promotion and nursing processes. Standard disciplines include, but are not limited to, immunology, oncology, nuclear medicine, surgery, topical diseases, AIDS and development of the central nervous system.
The Medical University of Lublin was established in the early 1950s. It expanded its curriculum by adding a Faculty of Nursing in 1972 and a Division of Dentistry in 1973. It was not until 1995, that a Medical Analytics Division of Faculty of Pharmacy was added, according to the university's website. It is located in the heart of Lublin, a big industrial and commercial center. Much of the focus is on education, as Lublin also offers 10 institutions of higher education, such as Catholic universities and the Academy of Agriculture. However, the Medical University of Lublin prides itself on the medical students, which includes physicians, dentists, pharmacists and nurses.
Located in the capital of Poland, the Medical University of Warsaw include educational faculties in medicine and dentistry. The old medical academy of Warsaw was based on these two faculties, while the newly established Warsaw Medical Academy offers pharmaceutical studies as well. The Medical University of Warsaw prides itself on the scientific research it conducts, often in collaboration with research institutions in Europe, the United States and Asia. Research areas include nephrology, cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, dermatology, surgery, orthopaedics, gynaecology and dentistry, to name a few. Due to the engagement in research, the Medical University of Warsaw has established recognized international positions in research, both in clinical and theoretical medicine.
In 1946, the minister of health in Katowice, Poland, established the Medical University of Silesia. From the very beginning, the medical academy has consisted of both a school of medicine and a division purely devoted to dentistry and has been given the status of state university. The medical university also holds an accreditation of the State Accreditation Commission, which authorizes the academy to provide teaching, training and education in the fields of medicine, medical analytics, public health, midwifery, nursing and pharmacy. According to the website, the medical university of Silesia has been conducting studies in English since 1996 and holds a certificate from the U.S. Department of Education.
