Residents of Virginia who are enrolled in a Nurse Practitioner/ Nurse Midwife program at a Virginia state college or university can apply for the Nurse Practitioner Nurse Midwife Scholarship Program. The scholarship program is sponsored by the Virginia Department of Health and recipients of the scholarship have to agree to work in a medically under-served area of Virginia for a number of years equal to the annual scholarships the student received. For instance, if a nursing student received a scholarship from the Nurse Practitioner Nurse Midwife Scholarship Program two years in a row, they have to commit to two years working in a medically under-served area. The Northeast Ohio Nurse Practitioners sponsor the Joan German Scholarship that provides $750 to an eligible Nurse Practitioner student. The award is named in memory of Joan German, an OB/GYN nurse practitioner and former Northeast Ohio Nurse Practitioners Committee Chair. This National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners McNeil Scholarship is for current registered nurses who are interested in becoming a pediatric nurse practitioner. To be eligible, interested parties must have a financial need and state why they are pursuing a career as a pediatric nurse practitioner. Two award recipients will each win a $2,000 scholarship for their nurse practitioner education.
