Scholarships for Italian Women

As education becomes increasingly expensive, the competition for financial aid opportunities becomes more fierce. Many students turn to organizations that offer scholarships using selective criteria. Scholarship opportunities based on heritage and gender are available, and Italian American women in particular have several choices.
  1. National Organization of Italian American Women

    • The National Organization of Italian American Women (NOIAW) sponsors five scholarship awards every year. Italian American women pursuing a law degree are eligible for the Geraldine A. Ferraro Endowed Scholarship. The other four scholarships are available to both undergraduate and graduate students as long as they are female, have a grade point average of at least 3.5, and have one parent of Italian-American descent. Applicants must compose an essay of no more than 2 pages that discusses how being an Italian American has impacted their personal and professional lives.

Italian Women's Civic Club: Dante Scholarship Program

    • The Italian Women's Civic Club (IWCC) of Rochester, New York, sponsors the Dante Scholarship Program, which provides funds for winners to attend three Rochester-area schools: the University of Rochester, Nazareth College of Rochester, and St. John Fisher College. Applicants must be residents or natives of the greater Rochester area and have some Italian heritage. Scholarship winners must attend the annual Dante Scholarship Ball and one other IWCC-sponsored event during the year.

    The National Italian American Foundation

    • The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) scholarship program is offered to students who have at least one ancestor who emigrated from Italy. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or have permanent residency and must have a 3.5 grade point average or above to qualify. The NIAF also administers three other scholarships: the John R. Mott Foundation Scholarship, the Anthony Campitelli Endowed Fund, and the Eleanor and Anthony DeFrancis Scholarship Fund.
