Scholarships for Single Moms

Single working mothers work very hard and sacrifice a lot to provide for their families' futures. They may never have gone to college, or they may have interrupted furthering their educations because of personal circumstances. When they are ready, financial gifts such as scholarships are available for those women who qualify.

    • The Jeannette Rankin Women's Scholarship Fund provides annual scholarships to low-income women aged 35 years and older. Its mission is to help these women pursue technical or vocational training, associate's or first bachelor's degree to better themselves, their families and communities.

    Women's Independence Scholarship Program (WISP)

    • WISP provides recent (minimum one-year) survivors of partner abuse the financial means to gain independence and support their families. Through education scholarships, the program primarily helps women with young children to gain employable skills.

    Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation for Low Income Women and Children

    • The Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation provides financial awards to low income women with minor children. These women can learn skills or pursue a degree or professional training. Eligible women use these awards to directly pay for school expenses or to help with living expenses while enrolled.

    Undergraduate Scholarship Displaced Homemaker Scholarship

    • The Association on American Indian Affairs provides $750 per semester (as of 2010) for those with family responsibilities who might not otherwise be able to pursue their educations. Recipients may use funds for education and basic living expenses, childcare or transportation.

    Emporia State University Single Parents with Children Scholarship

    • Emporia State University offers $2000 per year (as of 2010) for current students (single, widowed or divorced) who are raising children. They must have custody of their children and be enrolled for 12 credit hours as an undergraduate.
