Hero's Fund for Single Parents

• The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire awards a $500 scholarship through its Hero's Fund for Single Parents program. Preference is given to female returning students.

  Candidates must be single custodial parents of dependent children and prove they have financial need that cannot be met by traditional financial aid programs. Additionally, they must be admitted and enrolled at UW-Eau Claire, have a sound academic record and demonstrate the likelihood of continued success in their program of study.

  Applicants must file the Free Application For Student Aid form with UW-Eau Clair's Financial Aid Office to be considered for this scholarship.

Renate W. Chasman Scholarship

• The Renate W. Chasman Scholarship Fund was established to provide financial aid to women returning to higher education. The $2,000 award is good for one year and is given to residents of Nassau or Suffolk counties or the boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens. The scholarship is offered through Brookhaven Laboratory's Women in Science Program.

  Applicants must be female students who are returning to school after a break in their education. They must be juniors or seniors at the undergraduate level or entering their first year of graduate study at an accredited institution, and enrolled at least half-time.

  Only citizens and permanent residents of the United States may apply.

Nancy Talbot Scholarship Award

• Talbots is a women's clothing, shoe and accessories manufacturer with stores both online and across the United States, Canada and Japan. The Talbots Scholarship Foundation awards the Nancy Talbot Scholarship Award, which is intended for women who earned their high school diploma or GED 10 or more years ago.

  Applicants may be already enrolled or planning to enroll full- or part-time in an undergraduate program at a higher education institution. This can be a two-, three- or four-year institution in the United States or Canada.

  Ten $15,000 scholarships will be awarded, along with one $30,000 scholarship.

  Talbots states it will only process the first 5,000 applications, so candidates should apply as soon as they are able.
