Scholarships for High School Senior Girls

Searching for college scholarships can be a daunting and overwhelming task for all students. Each scholarship has a certain set of criteria that ranges from having a particular grade point average to being a certain ethnic background to having worked for a specific company. Other scholarships carry the stipulation of committed career years following graduation, while others are school specific. A simple way to narrow a scholarship search for female students is to search for women-specific tuition awards.
  1. Girls Inc. National Scholars

    • Girl Inc. is a national organization that supports female empowerment and supports young girls throughout the stages of their adolescent development. The Girls Inc. National Scholars Program began in 1992 when Lucile Miller Wright, a strong supporter of Girls Inc., made funded scholarships for young women through her estate.

The scholarship awards are granted in amounts of $2,500 and $15,000 and are given annually to help cover tuition and expenses at any accredited two- or four-year college or university. The awards are only available to girls who are in the 11th or 12th grade and are members of a Girls Inc. affiliated program.

    Corinne Jeannine Schillings Foundation

    • The Corinne Jeannine Schillings Foundation is offered in memory of Corinne Schillings, a young woman who died as a result of the Baltimore Water Taxi accident March 6, 2004.

To be eligible for the scholarship, a young woman must have earned the Girl Scout Gold or Silver Award and plan to or currently be pursuing a college major or minor in a foreign language. The scholarship awards $1,500 for one academic year in undergraduate studies. The scholarship can be renewed up to three times following the first award, totaling $6,000. To be eligible for renewal, awardees must maintain at least a "B" grade point average in a foreign language and submit the renewal application and all additional paperwork each year.

A grant also is available for airfare to a Silver or Gold Award Girl Scout who plans to study abroad, regardless of her major or minor. An applicant does not need to be a scholarship recipient to apply for this grant, and no scholarship recipients are excluded from applying.

    Girls Going Places

    • The Girls Going Places Entrepreneurship Award Program works to reward the enterprising spirits of girls between the ages of 12 and 18. The scholarship is given to 15 girls with promising talent in entrepreneurship who have taken the initial steps toward financial independence and work to make a difference in their schools and communities. Scholarships totaling $30,000 are granted to the top three winners and 12 finalists each year. This money may be applied to an entrepreneurial pursuit or a college degree.

To apply, a girl must be between 12 and 18 years old and enrolled in middle school or high school. The applicant must submit a 250-word personal essay concerning her thoughts on entrepreneurship, business, financial independence and leadership. Applicants also should acquire a 750-word letter of recommendation written by an adult, as well as complete the official application paperwork.

    Talbots Women's Scholarship

    • Talbots Women's Scholarship Fund is a program funded by the Talbots Charitable Foundation. The scholarship aids women determined to achieve a college degree.

There are six awards in the amount of $10,000, and 60 scholarships in the amount of $1,000.
