America's Junior Miss dates back to 1958, making it one of the oldest scholarship programs for high school senior women in the country, as well as one of the largest. In 2008 alone, over $50 million in scholarships were available to Junior Miss participants. Close to 200 universities and colleges offer scholarship awards to Junior Miss contestants and winners, including full tuition awards and a number of partial scholarships than can be claimed by any girl who participates. America's Junior Miss also awards many cash scholarships to contestants.
High school girls begin by competing in local levels, then move on to their state competition, and finally to the National Junior Miss Finals in Mobile, Alabama. Judging focuses on talent, fitness, self expression, scholastic record and the contestant's personal interview. America's Junior Miss charges no fees to enter the scholarship competition.
