Online Minority Scholarships

There are many online minority scholarships available to college-bound students. These scholarships come in different monetary amounts, and have various qualification requirements.   1. Gates Millenium Scholars Program

    • The Gates Millennium Scholars Program, the largest minority scholarship program in the United States, is open to students who are either African American, Hispanic, Native American/Alaskan, Asian or Pacific Islander. The program is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which gives out 1,000 full-tuition scholarships every year. Applicants must have at least a 3.3 GPA (on a 4.0 scale).

    United Negro College Fund

    • The United Negro College Fund offers more than 400 scholarships, fellowships and grants annually, many of which are online. Most of the students who receive financial support for college from this fund come from families who earn less than $25,000 a year.

    Hispanic College Fund

    • The Hispanic College Fund has awarded over $15 million to more than 5,000 Hispanic students since it began in 1993. The program had 592 award recipients in a recent year, more than 80 percent of whom majored in business, engineering, science, math or technology.

    Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund

    • The Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund (APIASF) manages two scholarships---the APIASF freshman scholarship program and the Gates Millennium Scholars/Asian Pacific Islander Americans program. The organization awarded $625,000 to 225 students in a recent school year.

    American Indian College Fund

    • Each year, the American Indian College Fund offers money to 6,000 students seeking post-secondary educations at tribal colleges or universities. Along with the Tribal College Scholarship Program, the organization offers the Special Scholarship Program for tribal or mainstream schools.

    The Jewish Federation of North America

    • Although the Jewish Federation of North America doesn't directly provide scholarship funds, it connects students with numerous online opportunities. Students can seek out such opportunities as the Federation Executive Recruitment & Education Program, which offers up to $40,000 a year for certain graduate programs, under the condition that they work for the federation at least two years after graduation.

    Arab American Institute

    • The Arab American Institute website also offers links to scholarships for students of Middle Eastern decent. Among available links to financial aid organizations is the Ameen Rihani Organization, which offers $1,500 scholarships to students with at least a 3.25 (out of 4.0) GPA.
