Florida Minority Scholarships

Florida is famous for year-round warm weather and oranges, but also is home to many institutions of higher learning, from well-known state schools to independent universities to reputable community colleges. Minority students in Florida have many scholarship options and can use these awards to help them pursue a degree.
  1. Florida Fund for Minority Teachers

    • The Florida Fund for Minority Teachers seeks to bring diversity to the state's educators through the Minority Teacher Education scholarship. The award is worth $4,000 a year, distributed in payments of $2,000 per semester to successful applicants. To apply for the award, students must be juniors and have earned 60 credit hours toward their degree. Additionally, applicants must be of Hispanic, Asian, Black or Native American descent and be Florida residents.

    Orlando Magic UFC Minority Scholarship

    • The Orlando Magic basketball team offers the UFC Minority Scholarship to help promising students attend college. The awards are worth $10,000 over four years and available to students from the Florida counties of Osceola, Orange and Seminole who will attend the University of Central Florida. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and at least a 21 on the ACT or a 1010 on the SAT. They also must provide letters of recommendation and an essay "describing their own personal qualities," according to the Orlando Magic.

    Cuban American Bar Association Scholarships

    • The Cuban American Bar Association of Florida offers many scholarships to help minority students pursue careers in law. Awards are available for use at the University of Miami, Florida State University and other state schools. The scholarship award for students at Florida International University seeks applicants who've obtained a law school record of academic distinction and demonstrated a commitment to service-oriented activities through advocacy on behalf of the Cuban American community, according to the school. Award amounts and requirements vary based on the scholarship sought.

    Department of Business and Professional Regulation

    • To encourage minorities to enroll in a fifth year of university or college to qualify for taking the CPA examination, the Florida's Department of Business and Professional Regulation offers scholarship assistance. Applicants must be Florida residents with financial need, qualify for minority status based on their gender, race or ethnicity and have earned 120 higher education credit hours. The scholarships are worth $6,000 for a year of studies and are distributed in two $3,000 installments.
