Stanford University offers an advanced-level certificate program in computer security that teaches students how to protect networks, prevent attacks and secure electronic assets. The certificate is offered in an online format and requires the completion of six courses for the entire program. These courses include three required courses and three electives; the required courses include using cryptography correctly, writing secure code and security protocols. Students choose three electives from choices that include emerging threats and defenses, securing web applications, computer security management and web security 2.0.

Dakota State University offers a Bachelor of Science degree program in computer and network security. This program teaches students about computer security attacks and how to defend against them, social engineering and fraggle attacks. These students learn to hack so that they are familiar with the process and know how to build networks that are resistant to these attacks. James Madison University offers a Master of Science degree program in information security that is designed to be completed online in its entirety.
