      Nova Southeastern University offers a PhD. in Computer Information Systems with an optional concentration in Information Security. Analysis and exploration of the links between theory and practice will enable the development of effective solutions. A core element of the course is the study and understanding of what procedures and mechanisms attackers use to subvert tools intended to protect operations and data. The course is recognized by the U.S. National Security Agency as meeting NSA training standards for information systems security professionals and systems administrators. The course requires attendance at four cluster meetings held Friday to Sunday afternoon quarterly at the campus and also contains elements that can be completed online.

    • University College London puts a lot of emphasis on research.

      UCL has a new $25 million Security Science Doctoral Research Training Centre, or SECReT. Designed specifically for students wishing to pursue multidisciplinary security or crime-related research degrees, it is Europe's first such facility and is open to applications from overseas students. There are three deadline dates for written applications between November and April, with successful candidates being invited to interview between January and March. Interviews take place in London. The four-year PhD program contains five elements: a core of research-focused taught modules; executive training to develop transferable professional skills; a program of security events and activities; 6-12 months at a partner organization on an internship; and the PhD thesis.
