The University of Louisville advertises 32 Ph.D. programs, with offerings ranging from anatomical science and neurobiology to urban and public affairs. Louisville also offers an interdisciplinary studies Ph.D. and a combined M.D./Ph.D. in partnership with the University of Louisville School of Medicine.

The University of Kentucky also offers a cross-institutional Ph.D. in rehabilitation sciences in conjunction with health science-related departments at Eastern Kentucky University, Murray State University, and Western Kentucky University. Faculty from the four partner universities teach in the program, and while students may take classes online or at any of the partner universities, students will receive their Ph.D. degrees from the University of Kentucky.
