The University of Florida College of Dentistry has a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree that is the only publicly funded program of its kind in the state. The first year of the program covers the basics including Gross Anatomy, Physiology and Foundations of Patient Care. By year four, students are researching Endodontics and have moved on to more advanced patient care. It also offers a dual D.O./D.M.D degree for students interested in teaching after graduation. This six-year program covers every aspect of dentistry and is unique to Florida. The Sanford-Brown Institute, a dental school located in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, has a training program in Dental Assisting. This program trains graduates to work at dental offices in many different positions including assisting, reception and clinical office management. The program covers dental anatomy, x-rays and radiology and experience with dental instruments.
