NYC Colleges

New York City is the largest city in the United States, and is considered one of the world's major economic, financial and cultural centers. As a result, there are some of the highest-regarded educational institutions in the country located in this massive metropolis. There are colleges scattered throughout the city, in different neighborhoods. Degree programs of all sorts are offered.
  1. Columbia University

    • Considered one of the best schools for training in liberal arts, Columbia University has one of the most famous alumni lists of any college in America, including Barack Obama, Theodore Roosevelt, Art Garfunkel, Jack Kerouac, J.D. Salinger, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Ben Stein and Allen Ginsberg, among many others. Columbia is a private, Ivy League school, located in Manhattan. There are about 7,000 undergraduates, and more than 17,000 postgraduates enrolled in Columbia. It is the oldest educational institution in the state of New York, founded as King's College in 1754. It is a popular school for advanced programs in law, business, medicine and arts.

    New York University

    • Located in the Greenwich Village neighborhood, New York University (NYU) is the largest private school in America. With more than 50,000 students, NYU has seen many of its alumni go on to win the Nobel Prize, the Pulitzer Prize and the Academy Award. Some of the school's famous graduates include Woody Allen, Joel Coen, Rudy Giuliani, Alan Greenspan and Spike Lee. The Global University Ranking has NYU at No. 22 on its list of top world universities, with its philosophy, mathematics and finance department ranked No. 1. The Princeton Review ranks it as one of America's "Dream Schools," along with Harvard, Yale and Stanford.

    The King's College

    • The King's College is located inside of one of the most recognizable landmarks in America: the Empire State Building. The college's foundations are in Christian theology, but King's is known as one of the most liberally minded Christian colleges in the U.S. Renowned conservative writer Marvin Olasky is the provost at King's. Focusing on ministry opportunities around the city of New York, King's offers undergraduate programs in philosophy, media arts, economics and theology. Most students use The King's College as a gateway into a seminary school or law school.
