Founded in 1927, Capitol College is self-described as "the only independent college in Maryland dedicated to engineering, computer science, information technology and business." The college is located halfway between Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, making it an ideal location for college students who want to have access to multiple entertainment venues outside of class. The college is regionally accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The school offers undergraduate degrees in astronautical engineering, business administration, computer science, electrical engineering and software engineering, among others. Sojourner-Douglass College was established in 1972. Eight years later, in 1980, the college received its regional accreditation from the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The college offers a wide variety of degree plans in the arts and sciences including degrees in accounting, substance abuse counseling, administration, business administration, biotechnology, criminal justice, gerontology, health care administration, human growth and development, human services, information systems administration, information technology, political campaign management, public administration, sociology, social work, urban planning and community development and nursing. Located in Chestertown, Maryland, Washington College was founded in 1782 and was the first college founded in the period following the Declaration of Independence by the original 13 colleges. The college boasts a small student-to-faculty ratio of 12 to 1 and was featured by "Princeton Review" in 2008 as a top college in the nation. The college offers 44 different undergraduate majors, including unique fields such as Chesapeake Regional Studies.
