Community Colleges in Maryland

The state of Maryland has 16 community colleges with over 500,000 students in attendance each year. According to the Maryland Association of Community Colleges (MACC), Maryland's community colleges provide affordable education and training that prepares students for careers and impacts the state's workforce development needs. The community colleges offer associate degrees, certificates and transfer programs that prepare students to transfer to four-year colleges or universities. Maryland's community colleges also provide continuing education classes, GED programs and classes for English learners.
  1. Allegany College of Maryland

    • Allegany College serves residents in the counties of Cumberland in Maryland, and Bedford and Somerset in Pennsylvania. The college's residential housing, Willowbrook Woods, is near the Cumberland campus. Allegany's one and two-year programs prepare students for employment. Students may major in programs leading to more than 40 careers or they may choose one of the 30 transfer programs that prepares them to continue their education at four-year colleges.

    Baltimore City Community College

    • Baltimore City Community College (BCCC) conducts classes on its Harbor and Liberty Campus facilities. Classes are also held on 88 off-campus sites throughout the city. BCCC has 34 associate degree programs and 32 certificate programs. The college provides distance-learning, GED preparation courses and ESL classes. BCCC programs include health careers, teaching, information technology and construction. The college's Business and Continuing Education Division provides noncredit courses in a variety of areas.

    Chesapeake College

    • Chesapeake College serves residents of five Maryland counties on the state's Upper Eastern Shore. The college's main campus is located in Wye Mills. Campuses are located at the Center for Allied Health in Easton and at the Cambridge Center. The college partners with local businesses and schools to provide classes in additional locations. Chesapeake College offers distance learning, transfer programs and programs of study that include health, business and engineering technology.

    Prince George's Community College

    • Prince George's Community College (PGCC) is located in Largo and holds additional courses on off-campus sites located in Laurel, Hyattsville, Andrews Air Force Base and the Skilled Trades Center in Camp Springs. PGCC offers associate degrees, certificates and transfer programs. The college provides a continuing education program and workforce development programs.

    Wor-Wic Community College

    • Wor-Wic Community College serves the residents of Somerset, Worcester and Wicomico counties. The college offers day, evening and weekend classes and also offers classes online. Wor-Wic's programs include nursing, manufacturing engineering, criminal justice and electronics. Wor-Wic partners with business and government to prepare students for entry-level careers or to continue their education at four-year colleges or universities.
