In 2010, U.S. News and World Report ranked New York University No. 32 among all universities in the United States. With more than 42,000 undergraduate and graduate students, the college is the largest private university in the United States. Admission to the university is highly selective; less than one-third of those who apply receive an invitation to attend, reports the 2009 Barron's Profiles of American Colleges. The university's Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management grants a Bachelor of Science degree in hotel and tourism management, which requires four years of full-time study to complete. Required courses include accounting, human resources, marketing and leadership. During their junior years, students in the program specialize in event management, marketing and revenue management or organizations and operations. Many courses are held at hotel facilities in the city, such as the New York Marriott Marquis and the Waldorf-Astoria. Prior to graduation, all students must complete a 700-hour internship in a New York City hotel. The university also offers a Master of Science program in hotel management. Around half of all students at New York University receive some type of financial aid, reports Barron's.
