The Fashion Institute of Technology offers both an Associate of Applied Science degree and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in fashion design. The two-year associate's degree provides a combination of core fashion design and liberal arts courses. The curriculum includes courses in sewing techniques, fashion art and design and history of Western art and civilization. The bachelor's degree provides a broader knowledge base of the industry and permits students to specialize in areas such as children's wear, intimate apparel and special occasion apparel. Students learn patternmaking, professional draping, portfolio building and more. Students at the school participate in internships at fashion houses such as Donna Karan and Ralph Lauren for hands-on experience and networking in the field. Students may also study abroad through a portion of the program in Paris, London, Milan or Florence. Graduates are thoroughly prepared for a career as a designer, stylist and collection specialist.

The NYC Studio offers Kent State University students the opportunity to participate in a full semester of fashion design education. The curriculum includes weekly field trips to fashion and art venues and lectures from leading industry specialists. The course curriculum includes fashion forecasting, computer aided design (CAD) for fashion and fashion marketing. The school also offers the Paris and New York program where students explore two of the most prominent fashion capitals in the world. Students learn to compare the design markets and fashion techniques used in the two fashion cities. Two weeks are spent in New York exploring it's fashion-related venues and then two weeks in France where students visit Versailles and Paris. Applicants to the program must be enrolled in college studies at Kent University.

Parsons offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts in fashion design. It begins with a common foundation year where students learn the fundamentals of fashion drawing by hand and computer program. Throughout the next year of the program students learn the techniques involved in garment construction, while the third year introduces students to merchandising, trend analysis and fabrication. Students compile three collection concepts during the final year of the program where they select one to develop and present to professionals in the industry. Prospective students must have a high school diploma and take the American College Test (ACT) prior to admission.
