Colleges for Hospitality or Hotel Management

The growth of the tourism industry has increased the need for professional managers. Several colleges now offer degrees in hotel and hospitality management. The degrees can prepare you for a career in a variety of fields within the hospitality industry such as hotel management, restaurant management, catering management and even management of resorts and clubs in exotic locations.
  1. Oklahoma State University

    • Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma offers a masters of science degree in hospitality administration. This degree is broadly construed as an interdisciplinary degree designed to train students for management in a variety of settings. The program offers three primary areas of specialization: travel and tourism management, restaurant and food service management and hotel administration. The curriculum follows two possible paths. One is a 32 credit-hour program culminating in a master's thesis. This program is for those who intend to pursue a career in higher education teaching in the area of hospitality administration. The second is a 34 credit-hour program that requires a creative component rather than a thesis. Students obtain first-hand experience in the program through the school's on-campus Atherton Hotel.

    Florida International University

    • Florida International University (FIU) in Miami, Florida, is home to an internationally recognized school of hospitality and tourism management. FIU offers a variety of degrees in the field of hospitality and tourism. FIU offers a bachelor of science and a combined B.S. and master of science in hospitality management. The M.S. is also offered separately as a distance education degree. An executive program is also available for high level professionals who have considerable experience in the field. The school also offers a Ph.D. in business administration in which students take the majority of their courses from the school of business along with electives from the school of hospitality management. The dissertation is written in the field of hospitality management as well.

    Lexington College

    • Lexington College in Chicago, Illinois, is a women's college that specializes in the field of hospitality management. The private Catholic institution is regionally accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Lexington College offers a bachelor of applied science degree with four primary areas of concentration: event planning, health care and wellness, culinary arts and hotel and restaurant management. Students are required to take two internships.
