Located in Washington, D.C., George Washington's Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management offers certificate programs and undergraduate and graduate degrees. If you are interested in distance learning, the school offers an online master's degree in Tourism Administration. Available concentrations include sustainable tourism destination management, sports management and events management. As a student, you can also participate in the consulting practicum, whereby you collaborate with faculty and students in other schools to address tourism development in countries around the world.
Established in 1983, the Rosen College of Hospitality Management at the University of Central Florida has its own student housing and is one of the few facilities that offers a Ph.D. in Hospitality Education. If you are pursing an undergraduate degree, you can choose from hospitality management, event management and restaurant and food service management. Prior to graduation, undergraduates are required to spend three semesters interning in the field. Scholarships are available and there is no foreign language component in any of the programs.
Oklahoma State's School of Hotel and Restaurant Administration runs teaching restaurants such as the Ranchers Club and West Side Cafe, as well as an 80-room teaching hotel. Each undergraduate student must complete 320 hours of practical training in the hospitality field in order to graduate. Students can also participate in the Distinguished Chef Scholarship Benefit Series, where guest chefs share their skills. The department also produces a quarterly publication, the Journal of Quality Assurance in Hospitality & Tourism.
Florida International University's School of Hospitality and Tourism Management has an enrollment of approximately 1,400 and scholarships and assistantships are available for incoming students. The curriculum includes electives such as the Business of Wine, Cruise Line Operations and Management and Travel Industry Law. If you cannot attend classes on-campus, FIU's bachelor's degree in hospitality management is also available at St. Petersburg College, Florida. Each spring, students can volunteer with the South Beach Wine & Food Festival and network with professionals in the field.
