Columbia is located on the upper west side of Manhattan. Undergraduates can earn a B.A. in music, while graduate students can pursue doctoral degrees in music theory, composition, ethnomusicology or historical musicology. The university is also home to a Center for Jazz Studies.

Among the colleges that comprise the CUNY system, five offer expansive, creative music degree programs.
