Schools that specialize in music and acting strive to prepare their students for a successful post-graduation career in two very competitive industries--music and theater.   1. The Juilliard School

    • Originally founded in 1905, The Juilliard School is now located in New York City's Lincoln Center, on the city's Upper West Side. The school prides itself on providing the absolute highest quality of training in the areas of dance, drama and music. Of the approximately 800 graduate and undergraduate students, as reported in 2010, 3/4 are enrolled in Juilliard's music program, with the remaining 200 students split evenly between the school's drama and dance programs. Students enrolled in Juilliard's BFA and BM programs are required to take a minimum of 24 credit hours in liberal arts-based courses; this liberal arts education is believed to contribute greatly to students' post-college successes, by providing them with a well-rounded understanding and knowledge of subject-matters outside of the arts. The cost of tuition and fees for the full 2009-2010 academic year was approximately $51,720.

    Loyola University College of Music & Fine Arts

    • The College of Music & Fine Arts at Loyola University New Orleans is home to approximately 300 undergraduate and 20 graduate students, as reported in 2010. All applicants to the college must audition for their desired program of study. Undergraduates can pursue degrees in the areas of music composition, music education, theater arts, dance and studio art, among many others. Graduate students can pursue a Master of Music in Performance or a Master of Music Therapy. As a part of the larger Loyola University New Orleans system, the College of Music & Fine Arts is a Jesuit school. Tuition and fees for the 2009-2010 academic year cost $42,002.

    Carnegie Mellon College of Fine Arts

    • Carnegie Mellon, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a fine arts college which specializes in the areas of drama, design, music, art and architecture. Applicants to the School of Drama must audition in order to be considered for admission to the school. Students applying to the School of Music for the Music Performance program must also audition as a part of the admissions process. Audition requirements are available on the Carnegie Mellon website. The total cost of tuition and fees for the 2009-2010 academic year was $55,286. As of the fall of 2010, approximately 6,000 undergraduate students were enrolled at Carnegie Mellon.
