The Irish Academy of Dramatic Arts (IADA) was founded by theater actress/director Joy Forsythe to share her knowledge in acting and performing after being in the mainstream theater. Its main school is in the Blackrock section of Dublin, but the school conducts classes in six other venues.
The IADA emphasizes student-centered courses compared to traditional acting schools. Modules are concentrated on participatory and teamwork exercises to keep class members on their feet. Small classes are observed since the staff believes that "students are names, not numbers." The school offers courses on acting, dancing and singing for beginners through advanced students all year round; additionally, the school has developed a summer camp program that includes three courses.
