The University of Georgia has a Department of Theatre and Film that gives students a chance to earn a bachelor of arts degree. It also has a master of fine arts degree. Students take courses that include voice, speech and acting. They also study the history of film, stage and media. Workshops offer hands-on lessons by guest artists. The department stages six plays a year at its University Theatre. Examples of courses include Foundations of Acting, Actor Training I and II, Performance Technique and Acting for the Camera.
University of West Georgia College of Arts & Humanities offers a bachelor of arts degree in theater that includes elements of acting. Courses in its Theater Department program included production and performance, acting, directing, design and technical skills. Students also study the literature and history of theater. Specific courses in the BA program include Production and Performance, Voice and Movement, Stagecraft, Stage Make Up, and Acting I, II and III. The program is housed in a building with a computer-aided design lab, a sound lab and an acting/directing lab. Guest artists regularly appear to take part in student workshops.
Emory University has a Department of Theater and Dance that offers majors and minors in the arts. Many of its courses can also be used by students to fulfill the requirements of another major, or achieve a double major. The department's curriculum studies the technology, literature, design, management and performance of theater. Some specific courses include Reading for Performance, Acting Scene Study, Acting Speeches and Monologues, and Voice and Diction. Founded in 1982, the Department of Theater and Dance works in close association with Theater Emory Theatre, which stages productions throughout the year. Graduates of the program have gone on to join prestigious theaters, or continue their education for advanced degrees.
The Department of Theatre at Shorter College offers a bachelor of arts degree in theatre, and bachelor of fine arts degrees in theatre and musical theatre. The curriculum provides a knowledge of the theory, history and literature of theater and acting courses. The BFA in Theatre trains students to become professional actors upon graduation. Students also take part in theatrical performances that take place at the college. The department's BA curriculum permits students to also achieve a double major or minor in related fields such as art, English and psychology. All BFA performance majors must audition in the fall at the Georgia Theatre Conference, which screens them before the attend the Southeastern Theatre Conference later in the school year.
