The University of Wisconsin-Madison offers an undergraduate and graduate concentration in acting. Undergraduate studies include an overview of theatre history, theory and dramatic literature as well as the practical arts of theatre production, including acting, directing and designing. Students also participate in school-produced theatrical performances. Once the basic courses are completed, students focus on three more distinct areas of study, including acting and directing. A three-year specialized program in acting is offered for graduate students.

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay provides a basic theatre major or minor with four areas of emphasis available. One of the emphasized areas is performance, which includes acting and directing. In addition to completing specific coursework, the students are expected to perform in four productions each year, including classic, modern, experimental and musical pieces so their acting background is diverse. Trips to regional theatres, seminars and workshops are also available to students. Coursework in acting begins with basic vocal exercises, scene work and improvisation, and ends with detailed vocal work for specific character development and vocal production issues.
