The private, christian Baylor University was established in Waco, Texas in 1845. U.S. News & World Report ranked the school as 80th among all national universities. The current student body totals over 14,000, with 151 undergraduate degrees available, along with 76 master's programs and 30 doctoral programs. The christian community at Baylor is quite strong, with many of the students and faculty attending daily chapel on campus. Baylor University is part of the Big 12 conference, which puts its athletic teams in the national spotlight.

Founded in 1891, Rice University (officially called William Marsh Rice University) is a private institution in Houston, Texas. Rice offers both undergraduate and programs for students who, according to the school, \"participate in cutting-edge research with world-class faculty in the humanities, social sciences, engineering and natural sciences.\" Although the student body consists of fewer than 7,000 students, the highly respected academic program ranks at 17th on the 2010 U.S. News & World Report list of best national universities. The athletic programs at Rice compete at the NCAA Division I level, and the school's baseball team won the College World Series in 2003.

Texas A&M University is a public institution that was founded in 1871 in College Station, Texas. With nearly 50,000 students, the school is among the 10 largest schools in the country. A&M stands for Agricultural and Mechanics but the school offers degrees in more than 120 undergraduate fields, as well as 240 master's and Ph.D. degrees. The University of Houston, founded in 1927, has a student body of nearly 40,000, making it the third largest college in Texas. UH, as it's commonly called, offers more than 100 degrees for undergraduates and nearly 200 for graduates. The school's campus is situated within the metropolis of Houston and covers 600 acres of ground in the heart of the city. A member of Conference USA in the NCAA Division I, the athletics program at UH has had national championship appearances in both basketball and baseball.
