Accredited Colleges in Texas

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools is the regional accrediting body in Texas. All public universities, and many private universities in Texas get their accreditation through SACS.. In addition, some colleges within a university, such as business and journalism schools, can be accredited by national accrediting bodies overseeing that field of study.
  1. Flagship University- University of Texas

    • The University of Texas is Texas' flagship research university, and its main campus is located in Austin. The McCombs Business School at the University of Texas is ranked as having the 16th best Master of Business Administration program in the United States by U.S. News and World Report in 2011. Texas' Cockrell Engineering school, which is the ninth best in the nation, is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.

    Christian Universities

    • Baylor University, Texas Christian University and East Texas Baptist University are three religiously-affiliated universities in Texas. Baylor, located in Waco, is a Baptist Affiliated University ranked as the 79th best college nationally by U.S. News and World Report in 2011, and has the fifth best physical therapy program in the nation. Texas Christian University is religiously affiliated with the Disciples of Christ Christian Church and is located in Fort Worth. The school is the 99th best college nationally, according to U.S. News and World Report. The school has the 80th best graduate-level business school. East Texas Baptist University is located in Marshall and is a baptist affiliated university. The school is ranked as the 18th best regional university. All three universities are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

    Public Universities

    • Texas A&M and Texas Tech University are two of the largest public universities in Texas. Both universities are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Texas A&M's main campus is located in College Station, and the school is ranked as the 63rd best university in the nation by U.S. News and World Report. The school has the only accredited veterinary medicine program in Texas, and has the 12th highest ranked engineering program. Texas Tech is located in Lubbock and is ranked as the 159th best university in the nation, as of 2011.. The university's architecture school is accredited by the national Architectural Accrediting Board. Both Texas Tech and Texas A&M's engineering programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET Inc.

    • Rice University and Trinity University are two of the top ranked universities in Texas. Rice is the 17th best university nationally, while Trinity is ranked as the best private regional university in the west by U.S. News and World Report, as of 2011. Trinity's education school is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. Rice University's Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business is the 39th best business school in the nation and is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Rice's engineering school is the 33rd best in the nation and is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET Inc.
