Georgia State is a national university with its flagship campus in Atlanta. GSU has an undergraduate enrollment of more than 22,000. GSU offers 55 accredited degree programs and 16 NCAA Division I athletic teams. As a public university, GSU offers in-state tuition for Georgia residents.
Georgia Tech is a highly selective research university ranked 35 among national universities by "US News and World Report" in 2011 and in the top 10 among public universities. It has an undergraduate enrollment of more than 13,000 with in-state tuition available to residents. GT has 36 undergraduate degree programs in its schools of architecture, computing, engineering, liberal arts, management, and sciences.
Emory University is a private, tier-1 national university affiliated with the Methodist Church and was 20th in the "US News and World Report'' rankings. Undergraduates may enroll in three of Emory's academic units in Atlanta: Emory College, the School of Business and the School of Nursing. Entering students may also choose to spend their first two years at Emory's Oxford College located about 40 miles away in Oxford, Ga. Undergraduate enrollment is about 7,000.
Clark Atlanta University is a second-tier private institution affiliated with the Methodist Church. CAU is accredited to confer bachelor's, master's, and doctor's degrees in business, natural arts, and liberal arts. CAU has an undergraduate enrollment of more than 3,200 students. Clark Atlanta is part of a consortium of historically black colleges and universities called the Atlanta University Center.
Morehouse, an exclusively undergraduate private institution, is an all-men's college within the Atlanta University Center and one of only three remaining men's colleges in the United States. Morehouse consistently earns high rankings as one of the best liberal arts colleges in the nation, including Newsweek's list of "Best Schools for Do-Gooders." Morehouse offers 27 majors and has an enrollment of about 2,700.
Spelman College, another component of the Atlanta University Center, is the oldest historically black college in America and is ranked as a tier-1 liberal arts school. It is a women's college with an undergraduate enrollment of more than 2,200 students. Spelman confers degrees in 19 traditional fields of study and also allows for an independent major.
