Atlanta Tech Colleges

Georgia Institute of Technology is the only college in Atlanta, Georgia to offer degree programs in a wide variety of technological fields. However, Clark Atlanta University and Georgia State University both offer degree programs in certain tech fields as well.
  1. Georgia Institute of Technology

    • Georgia Institute of Technology, otherwise known as Georgia Tech, is a public university located in Atlanta. The school also has a satellite campus in Savannah. Georgia Institute of Technology ranks No. 35 in the U.S. News & World Report's rating of national universities, and No. 7 among public universities. Georgia Tech offers undergraduate degree programs in architecture, engineering, management, science and liberal arts. The school's undergraduate engineering programs rank among the top 10 in their field.

      Georgia Tech had a 59-percent acceptance rate as of Fall 2009, and costs about $9,000 a year in tuition and fees. Out-of-state students can expect to pay about $27,000 a year in tuition and fees as of February 2011.

    Clark Atlanta University

    • Clark Atlanta University is a private university based in Atlanta. The school ranks No. 24 out of the 34 historically black colleges the U.S. News & World Report reviewed in 2008. Although the school doesn't focus exclusively on technical majors, Clark Atlanta University's School of Arts and Sciences offers undergraduate programs in Computer and Information Science and Engineering.

      The school's Fall 2009 acceptance rate was 59 percent. The tuition and fees for 2010 to 2011 cost about $18,000.

    Georgia State University

    • Georgia State University is a public research university centered in downtown Atlanta. Like Clark Atlanta University, GSU doesn't exclusively offer degree programs related to technical fields, but the school provides undergraduate majors in Computer Information Systems and Computer Science.

      The cost to attend GSU as an in-state students runs about $7,000 in tuition and fees as of February 2011. Out-of-state students will pay about $22,000 in tuition and fees. The Fall 2009 acceptance rate for GSU was 51 percent.

    Considerations

    • Georgia Institute of Technology is hands down the best technical institute in Atlanta. The school frequently achieves high ratings for its engineering program, and is consistently ranked among the top ten of public universities. On the other hand, Georgia Tech is much more selective than Georgia State University and Clark Atlanta University; students with an average high school academic history will have an easier time obtaining admission to GSU or CAU than Georgia Tech.
