Top 10 Texas Colleges

Many different magazines and organizations rank colleges annually. One of the most popular is U.S News & World Report. The state of Texas is rich with higher education options and always has several colleges and universities rank highly. The following list, however, was taken from a survey the magazine did with high school counselors on national universities and included these top choices from Texas.
  1. Rice

    • Rice University is a very selective private school in Houston that was founded in 1912. As of 2010, tuition and fees are approximately $31,000 and enrollment is at just over 3,100 undergraduate students.

    Texas--Austin

    • University of Texas--Austin is a public school located in the state capital and was founded in 1883. With only 43.5 percent of applicants accepted, it is a selective university with over 37,000 students in over 300 academic programs. In-state tuition is approximately $8,900, as of 2010.

    Texas A&M

    • Texas A&M University--College Station is the first public college established in Texas in 1876 and boasts over 38,000 undergraduates as of 2010. In-state tuition at A&M is $8,336 and the university accepts 70.1 percent of it applicants.

    Baylor

    • Baylor University is a private school established in 1845 by the Baptist General Convention of Texas. It has over 12,000 students as tuition and fees are approximately $28,000, as of 2010.

    • Southern Methodist University is a private school affiliated with the United Methodist Church. It was founded in 1911 and enrolls over 6,200 undergraduates. SMU has tuition and fees of approximately $35,000, as of 2010.
