Top Radiology Colleges

Radiologists are doctors trained to use imaging machines to diagnose illnesses, including XRays, MRIs and CT scanners. There is no official ranking for the top radiology programs, however undergraduates interested in a career as a radiologist are strongly encouraged to attend schools that offer radiology courses and a strong medical program. Johns Hopkins University, Stanford University and Yale University are top-rated medical schools, each of which offer extensive courses in radiology.

    • Johns Hopkins University is one of the best medical schools in the country and offers an extensive radiology department, according to a finding by US News. The School of Medical Imaging offer students an 18-month program that prepares students for a career in diagnostic radiology. Students gain hands-on experience in hospitals, clinics, medical centers and radiology laboratories in Baltimore and the surrounding area.

    Stanford University

    • The Stanford School of Medicine offers one of the best radiology programs in the country, as well as one of the best medical schools, according to US News. This program, established in 1904, emphasizes research, experience in caring for patients, and training on the latest image-based technology. This program was voted the "Best Radiologist Training Program" in 2009 by AuntMinnie.com. In addition, according to the Stanford Radiology website, the National Institutes of Health provided more than $23 million in funding to the program during the 2009 academic year.

    Yale University

    • Yale University's School of Medicine also offers a prestigious radiology program in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology. This program features some of the world's most sophisticated technology, and students are encouraged to learn through hands-on guidance. According to the program's website, the Radiology Department is funded by the National Institute of Health annually, and the residency program is considered one of the best in the country.
