There are over two hundred colleges and universities in the state of Texas, ranging from local community colleges with a few hundred students to large universities with enrollment in the tens of thousands. You don't have to be a native Texan to appreciate the wide variety of degree programs these schools offer and the caliber of education they provide.
  1. Texas A&M University

    • Texas A&M University was the first public university established in the state of Texas and serves approximately 50,000 students from around the world. The university offers over 250 degree programs in 10 schools, including the Bush School of Government, the Mays Business School and the Dwight Look College of Engineering.

    Baylor University

    • Baylor University offers degrees to approximately 15,000 enrolled students in a Christian-faith-based learning environment. The university offers over 145 degree programs in eight colleges, including 60 distinct "study abroad" programs. With a faculty-to-student ratio of 15:1, the learning environment at Baylor is designed to foster one-on-one mentoring relationships.

    Texas Tech University

    • Texas Tech University serves approximately 30,000 enrolled students in over 300 degree programs at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral level. Degrees are offered in 11 colleges, including business, engineering and communications as well as the university law school and the university health sciences center.

    The University of Texas at Austin

    • The University of Texas at Austin boasts an enrollment of approximately 50,000 students, making it one of the largest public universities in the United States. There are over 170 degree programs at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral level in 16 colleges. The university is also home to several renowned cultural institutes, including the Jack S. Blanton Museum of Art and the LBJ Library and Museum.

    Rice University

    • Rice University is a smaller institution, with a total enrollment of less than 6,000 students. Approximately 29 percent of the student body is enrolled in engineering degree programs at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral level, with natural sciences a close second. The learning environment at Rice integrates teaching and research, and a student-to-faculty ratio of 5:1 allows for collaboration across colleges and programs.

    Texas Christian University

    • Texas Christian University is one of the largest universities affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The university offers 173 degree programs in nine schools, including divinity, management and engineering. TCU strives to create a values-based learning experience for its approximately 9,000 enrolled students.
