List of Texas State Universities

Students wishing to attend a four-year college in the state of Texas have a wealth of public and private institutions from which to choose. In addition to private schools and independent public colleges, Texas has six state university systems, each with a major flagship institution and several smaller campuses and/or health sciences campuses.
  1. University of Texas System

    • The largest of the state's university systems, the University of Texas System encompasses the flagship campus in Austin as well as the four-year and community college partnership between the University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College. The system also operates campuses in Arlington, Dallas, El Paso, Edinburg (UT-Pan American), Odessa (UT-Permian Basin), San Antonio and Tyler, as well as health science or medical-related campuses in San Antonio, Laredo, Tyler, Houston (MD Anderson Cancer Center and the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston), Galveston and Dallas.

    Texas A&M University System

    • In addition to the system's flagship university at College Station, the Texas A&M University System consists of 12 institutions around the state: Texas A&M International University, Texas A&M University at Galveston, Texas A&M University--Commerce, Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi, Texas A&M University--San Antonio, Texas A&M University System Health Science Center, Texas A&M University--Kingsville, Prairie View A&M University, Tarleton State University, Texas A&M University--Texarkana, West Texas A&M University and Texas A&M University--Central Texas.

    Texas State University System

    • The oldest state university system in Texas, the Texas State University System consists of seven institutions. In addition to three two-year colleges, the system awards four-year degrees at Lamar University, Texas State University-San Marcos, Sam Houston State University and Sul Ross University.

    Texas Tech University System

    • The Texas Tech University System consists of three main schools, two of which operate multiple campuses. In addition to the flagship institution at Lubbock, Texas Tech also has campuses in Abilene, Amarillo, Fredericksburg, Highland Lakes, Junction, Seville, Spain, and Quedlinburg, Germany. The system also operates Angelo State University and the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, which has campuses in Amarillo, El Paso, Lubbock, Permian Basin and the School of Pharmacy at Abilene.

    University of Houston and University of North Texas systems

    • The University of Houston (uhsa.uh.edu) and the University of North Texas systems (untsystem.unt.edu) are the two smallest university systems in Texas. In addition to its main campus, the University of Houston also has campuses in Clear Lake, downtown Houston and Victoria. The University of North Texas System has a main campus in Denton, a Health Science Center in Fort Worth and an additional campus in Dallas.

    Independent Public and Private Universities

    • In addition to public state university system colleges, Texas has many independent public colleges and private institutions. Midwestern State University, Stephen F. Austin State University, Texas Southern University and Texas Woman's University are the state's independent public colleges. Private colleges in Texas are: Abilene Christian University, Amberton University, Arlington Baptist College, Austin College, Bay Ridge Christian College, Baylor University, College of Saint Thomas More, Concordia University, Dallas Baptist University, Dallas Christian College, Dallas Baptist University, East Texas Baptist University, Hardin-Simmons University, Houston Baptist University, Howard Payne University, Huston-Tillotson University, Jarvis Christian College, LeTourneau University, Lubbock Christian University, McMurry University, Northwood University, Paul Quinn College, Our Lady of the Lake University, Rice University, St. Edward's University, St. Mary's University-Texas, Schreiner University, Southern Methodist University, Southwestern Adventist University, Southwestern Assemblies of God University, Southwestern Christian College, Southwestern University, Texas Baptist College, Texas Christian University, Texas College, Texas Lutheran University, Texas Wesleyan University, Trinity University, University of Dallas, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, University of St. Thomas, University of the Incarnate Word, Wayland Baptist University, Western Texas College and Wiley College.
