Florida State Universities List

Florida's State University System contains 10 public universities and one public college. The system has three flagship institutions that conduct the most research. In 2010, U.S. News & World Report magazine ranked two public universities in Florida among the nation's top 105 universities.
  1. University of Florida

    • The University of Florida, founded in 1853, is one of three flagship institutions of the State University System of Florida. As of 2009, the school had nearly 50,000 students. The university contains 16 academic colleges, including the colleges of agricultural and life sciences; business administration; dentistry; design, construction and planning; education; engineering; fine arts; health and health performance; journalism and communications; law; liberal arts and sciences; medicine; nursing; pharmacy; public health and health professions; and veterinary medicine. The UF division of continuing education offers distance learning and executive education programs. Undergraduates at UF can choose from more than 100 majors. In 2010, the University of Florida tied for 47th in U.S. News & World Report magazine's ranking of national universities.

    Florida State University

    • Florida State University, founded in 1851, is one of three flagship institutions of the State University System of Florida. As of 2009, the school had about 29,700 undergraduates and 3,400 graduate students. The university contains 15 academic colleges, including the colleges of arts and sciences; business; communication and information; criminology and criminal justice; education; engineering; human sciences; law; medicine; motion picture arts; music; nursing; social sciences and public policy; social work; and visual arts, theatre and dance. In 2010, Florida State University tied for 102nd in U.S. News & World Report magazine's ranking of national universities.

    University of South Florida

    • The University of South Florida, founded in 1956, is one of three flagship institutions of the State University System of Florida. In addition to its main campus in Tampa, the university has campuses in St. Petersburg, Sarasota and Lakeland. The university's main campus includes seven colleges, including the colleges of arts and sciences, behavioral and community sciences, business, education, engineering, marine science and the arts. The university also has a continuing education division and an honors program. The University of South Florida health division includes the colleges of medicine, nursing and public health.
