List of Miami Universities

The major city of Miami is on the southeastern tip of the United States. It has warm weather year round and miles of coast along the Atlantic Ocean. In addition to beaches, Miami has two national parks, one of which, Biscayne National Park, is the only living tropical reef in the continental United States. Miami appeals to many students and potential students with a variety of universities. Degree programs are available in business, engineering, nursing, environmental studies, design and international studies, among many more.
  1. University of Miami

    • The University of Miami, located on 225 acres in Coral Gables, is a private research university with about 15,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The university has 12 schools and offers 180 majors and programs. Over 50 percent of classes for undergraduates have 15 or fewer students. In 2010, "U.S. News & World Report" ranked the University of Miami as the best school in Florida. Many students enroll in research and medical programs at the Miller School of Medicine; others study marine science, engineering, education and psychology.

    Miami International University of Art and Design

    • Miami International University of Art and Design is on Biscayne Boulevard, just north of downtown Miami. The school is part of the Art Institutes, a group of 45 educational institutes in North America. Students can live in university housing on campus if they wish. The university sponsors a variety of events throughout the school year, including dances, parties, special meals, "lunch and learn" sessions and off-campus trips. Students study design, media arts, fashion and culinary specialties. Associate's, bachelor's and master's degrees are offered.

    Florida International University

    • Florida International University is in eastern Miami near Tamiami Park. It is Florida's only four-year public research university and, with 44,000 students, is one of the 25 largest universities in the United States. The university offers more than 200 programs, including engineering, law and international relations. Students can earn bachelor's, master's or doctoral degrees. Florida International University awards the most bachelor's and master degrees to Hispanic students of any U.S. university.

    Johnson & Wales University

    • Johnson & Wales University, just north of downtown Miami, is a private college with three other campuses across the United States. The university offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in business, hospitality, culinary arts, technology and education. The North Miami campus covers more than 29 acres. The university has just over 2,000 students and offers varsity sports including basketball, cross country, golf and track. Students can also join intramural sports teams. The university has 25 clubs as well as a Greek system.
