List of Universities in Miami, Florida

The state of Florida has some of the largest universities in the nation as well as one of the most extensive public higher education systems. Within the city of Miami are no less that four universities. Each school offers a vastly different education opportunity for prospective students. In addition there are several four-year and two-year colleges found in or near Miami.
  1. University of Miami

    • One of the largest universities in the state, the University of Miami offers more than 180 programs of study. Conferring both undergraduate and graduate degrees, the school was recognized in 2010 by US News and World Report as one of "America's Best Colleges" as well as earning a listing as one of "American's Best Graduate Schools." Founded in 1925, the university has research-sponsored expenditures in excess of 300 million dollars each year. The school is proud of the student to teacher ratio, which in 2010 saw 50 percent of the classes have 16 students to each teacher. The Hurricanes are a Division 1 athletic program and part of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

    Florida International University‎

    • Florida International University has one of the largest enrollments in the nation with more than 40,000 students taking classes each semester. The school offers more than 200 bachelors, masters and doctorate degrees. In 2010, Florida International graduated 8,0000 students. Founded in 1969, FIU, is a public research institution. Among several successful programs, the College of Business Administration is ranked in the top 7 percent of business schools by the Association of Advanced Schools of Business. US News and World report ranked FIU as "the most selective university in Florida." The Golden Panthers are a Division 1 athletic program that competes in the Sunbelt Conference.

    Carlos Albizu University‎

    • Offering programs in business administration, education and psychology, Miami's Carlos Albizu University has an annual enrollment around 2,000. Offering Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate degrees, the school was established in 1966 in Puerto Rico. The university opened its Miami campus in 1980 and welcomes students from all cultural and ethnic backgrounds. All coursework is taught in English. The school was ranked by "Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education Magazine" as one of the 100 best universities in the United States for students of Hispanic heritage.

    Miami International University-Art & Design‎

    • Miami International University offers several degrees including an associates degree in fashion design, merchandising and accessory design. Bachelor's degrees can be earned in advertising, merchandising, animation, photography and visual arts. Masters degrees are conferred for graphic design, interior design and visual arts. The university is located in downtown Miami. Degree programs are designed to produce graduates who are marketable to employers after college.
