One of the largest universities in the state, the University of Miami offers more than 180 programs of study. Founded in 1925, the university has research-sponsored expenditures in excess of 300 million dollars each year. Florida International University has one of the largest enrollments in the nation with more than 40,000 students taking classes each semester. The school offers more than 200 bachelors, masters and doctorate degrees. In 2010, Florida International graduated 8,0000 students. Founded in 1969, FIU, is a public research institution. Among several successful programs, the College of Business Administration is ranked in the top 7 percent of business schools by the Association of Advanced Schools of Business. US News and World report ranked FIU as "the most selective university in Florida." The Golden Panthers are a Division 1 athletic program that competes in the Sunbelt Conference.

Offering programs in business administration, education and psychology, Miami's Carlos Albizu University has an annual enrollment around 2,000. Offering Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate degrees, the school was established in 1966 in Puerto Rico. The university opened its Miami campus in 1980 and welcomes students from all cultural and ethnic backgrounds. All coursework is taught in English.
